What the window did produce is Ekeler's own pitch, surfaced secondhand. A Sunday write-up by Soheli Tarafdar at EssentiallySports reached back to his August fifth appearance on the Fantasy Football Happy Hour podcast — the quote is from August fifth, not from cut weekend — where, asked about a move to Las Vegas, he said, "I'm unemployed right now." The same write-up frames his value as a third-down back and pass-protection specialist rather than a feature back, and has him naming the Raiders, his hometown team, as a place he would like to land. The piece pairs that preference with Ashton Jeanty's ankle injury in Las Vegas, but the pairing is the writer's construction: nothing in it reports a workout, a visit, or any expectation of a signing, and no Raiders interest in Ekeler has been reported anywhere we could reach.
Our last episode said the checkable things were the wire, and any injury to a passing-down back on a roster that believes it is contending. The wire: empty. The injury condition: the write-up that surfaced his pitch is built on exactly that kind of event, Jeanty's ankle — and still, in any reporting we can reach, the phone did not ring.
