Ridley was thrown to once, third and 9 at the Tennessee 48 with 1:23 left in the first quarter, short right and incomplete, and the Titans punted. He had caught both of his targets for 35 yards in Week 2; Cam Ward threw 36 times on Sunday, in a 12–7 loss to the Giants.

Three to nothing, Giants, a minute 23 left in the first quarter, third and nine at the Tennessee 48. Cam Ward threw short right for Calvin Ridley, seven yards in the air, and it fell incomplete. −1.5 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position — and −3.3 points of win probability, the chance of winning the game after the play against before it. Tennessee punted. It was Ridley's only target of the day, and his name does not appear anywhere else in the play-by-play: no catch, no carry, no penalty, no return.
The throws went elsewhere. His target was the fifth throw of Tennessee's day; the other 31 came after it, and none went his way. Ward threw 11 times to Wan'Dale Robinson, nine to Carnell Tate, four each to Tony Pollard and Gunnar Helm, three to Elic Ayomanor, two to Daniel Bellinger, one each to Chimere Dike and Ridley, and one had no receiver.
Back in June the preview leaned toward Ridley: two straight thousand-yard seasons before a hamstring and a broken leg ended last year at seven games. Week 1 he was not thrown to. Week 2 he caught both of his targets for 35 yards on the drive that tied the Eagles, and that episode called it a start and not a role. Sunday was one target in the first quarter. Three games: three targets, two catches, 35 yards. The role has not arrived. Tennessee is at the Ravens on Sunday the fourth.
