The shape of the room arrived, and it is three: Aaron Jones, Jordan Mason and rookie Demond Claiborne are the running backs on the initial 53 Minnesota announced Sunday, per Rob Kleifield at the team's website. Zavier Scott — a member of last year's roster — was cut, and Alec Lewis of The Athletic, via Vikings On SI's tracker, reported the move as opening the third-back job for Claiborne. That is the first hard fact this committee has produced, and our last episode said cutdown would produce it. What it does not carry is an ordering: no source in the window ranks the two veterans, and the roster page doesn't either.

Jones's own watch item expired quietly. We were looking for the passing-down snaps if the starters played the finale; Kevin O'Connell rested them in Friday night's 34-to-six loss at Denver, per Craig Peters at the team's website, so the role we called Jones's durable floor got no test in the finale, and the preseason ends without one on the record. No injury was attached to Jones anywhere in the week — the reported rest was team-wide, not a note about him.
