Cam Ward Muffed it against the Texans: 23 of 36, 170 yards, no touchdowns, 1 interception and 4 sacks in a 26-3 loss at home. He was worth -17.5 expected points added (EPA) on 41 dropbacks, -0.43 per dropback. EPA is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position.

The play that turned the game came early in the second quarter. Down 6-3, first and 10 at midfield, Ward threw short over the middle for Tony Pollard, and Jake Hansen intercepted at the Houston 40 and returned it 19 yards to the Tennessee 41. That throw cost -5.8 EPA and 16.5 points of win probability, the biggest swing of the game. Moments earlier, Wan'Dale Robinson had carried a 10-yard catch to midfield.

The first chance went begging too. On the opening drive, third and 4 at the Houston 12, a short throw for Elic Ayomanor fell incomplete, and Tennessee settled for 3.

The fourth quarter, at 26-3, belonged to Will Anderson Jr.: three sacks, two of them on fourth down, for losses of 14 and 13 yards. Danielle Hunter had the other.

One afternoon cost more than his first four games combined. Through Week 4 he was at -14.2 EPA on 136 dropbacks, -0.10 per dropback. His completion percentage over expected (CPOE), completions against what the throws' difficulty predicted, fell to -2.4 from +2.9, and the 4 sacks followed 6 in Weeks 1 through 4.
