Throwaway Rate Leaders
Throwaway Rate — 2026 NFL leaders, updated Oct 2, 2026. Bryce Young (CAR) led the league in throwaway rate at 14.2%, ahead of 27 other qualifying players. Based on verified play-level charting from FTN Data via nflverse, regular season only. Through Week 3 of the 2026 season.
Throwaway rate is the share of a quarterback's dropbacks that FTN's charters marked as a deliberate throwaway — a ball thrown out of bounds or into the ground to avoid a sack or a turnover. Rank 1 threw the ball away most often. That can be discipline or it can be a play that never opened, and the board cannot say which; it counts the decision, not the reason. In season every figure here is season to date, and before Week 4 it rests on two or three games — a gap of a few points between neighbours is noise until the sample grows.
