Carnell Tate smashed the Colts on a day Tennessee's passing game gave him almost everything: 6 catches on 7 targets, 70 yards, 1 touchdown and +5.8 expected points added (EPA) on his targets. EPA is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position. His 7 targets were nearly a third of Cam Ward's 22 attempts.

The touchdown came with 13:04 left in the game, down 13-6. Second and 5 at the Indianapolis 8: Ward threw short left and Tate caught it for the 8-yard touchdown, +1.8 EPA and +12.5 points of win probability. The extra point tied it at 13. Three snaps earlier he had caught a 9-yarder on first and 10 to the Indianapolis 19.

He moved the chains when Tennessee had nothing else going. Down 13-0, three snaps after Jonathan Taylor's fumble, third and 10 at the Indianapolis 33, he caught a 19-yard throw deep right to the 14, +2.4 EPA, and the drive ended in a field goal. He added a 14-yard catch on the opening series and an 18-yarder deep left in the third, +1.2 EPA.

The one miss was late. Tied 20-20 with 2:12 left, third and 5 at the Indianapolis 31, a deep throw to him fell incomplete, -1.3 EPA, and Tennessee settled for a 23-20 lead.

It was his first touchdown of the season. Through Week 5 he had 37 targets, 23 catches, 274 yards and +2.2 EPA, less than this one game produced.
