Chase Brown muffed the biggest moment of his day against the Dolphins: 13 carries, 39 yards, 3 catches for 21, and a lost fumble. He was worth -3.2 expected points added (EPA) on the ground and -4.6 on his targets. EPA is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position.
Up 14-7 with 7:03 left in the second quarter, second and 6 at the Miami 10, he caught a short pass from Joe Burrow and Chris Johnson forced a fumble at the 7. Chop Robinson recovered and returned it to the 18, where Ja'Marr Chase knocked it loose again, and Joshua Uche recovered for Miami at the 23. That was -5.5 EPA and -15.2 points of win probability, the biggest swing of the game.
The runs gave little back: his longest went 7 yards, and his success rate, the share of carries that gained positive EPA, was 31%. Samaje Perine got 14 carries to his 13.
It continued his season's direction. Through Week 4 he had 58 carries for 207 yards, -6.7 rushing EPA and a 38% success rate, plus -6.4 EPA on 24 targets.
