Three all, four 22 left in the third quarter against the Broncos, third and one at the Denver one. Brock Purdy threw short left to Deebo Samuel for the touchdown. +1.1 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position — and 7.8 points of win probability, the chance of winning the game after the play against before it. Two snaps earlier, on first and goal from the seven, he had caught a pass two yards behind the line and taken it to the one. The drive had started at the Denver 28, after a fumbled punt return.

The line: six targets, five catches, 26 yards, one touchdown, +2.2 expected points on the targets; three carries, 44 yards, two first downs, +3.0 on the carries. The runs were the bigger part. 22 yards up the middle on San Francisco's first snap after Denver's opening field goal, pushed out at the Denver 43. 20 around left end on second and 10 from the Denver 43 late in the half, to the 23, on the drive that ended in the tying field goal. His other long catch was eight yards on the McCaffrey touchdown drive.

Six targets tied George Kittle for second on the team, behind Mike Evans's eight, and three of San Francisco's 29 designed runs were his.

Back in June the preview asked whether the volume under his 20 25 numbers would hold wherever he landed. Week 3 had no targets. Sunday had six. Four games: 17 targets, 14 catches, a hundred 85 receiving yards counting the 80 on the Week 3 lateral, three touchdowns, and seven carries for 74.
