Price's first NFL carry went thirteen yards off right tackle on the first play from scrimmage of the season, and he finished with ten carries for fifty-two yards and two catches for six on a night Seattle's running backs carried twenty times and he had half of them. No touchdown, no carry longer than the first one, and plus one point zero expected points on his carries — a positive number in a run game that finished negative.

The first play from scrimmage of Seattle's season was a handoff to a rookie who had never carried the ball in an NFL game, and Jadarian Price took it 13 yards off right tackle to the Seattle 37. That was the longest run of his night and the longest by any running back in the game. He finished with 10 carries for 52 yards, and on a Wednesday when Seattle's rushing offense as a whole produced −1.3 expected points added on 21 carries, Price's 10 were worth +1.0. Expected points added is what a play was worth given the situation; a positive number on the ground meant his carries gained more than the down and distance expected, on a night most of Seattle's did not.
The carries came in bunches. Four in the first quarter — 13, seven, no gain on second and two, and 12 around right end to the Seattle 26 — then one for eight on second and three in the second quarter, and a three-yard loss around left end on Seattle's first drive of the second half. He did not carry again until the fourth quarter, when he took two on the touchdown drive, five and four yards, to set up the third and one that Emanuel Wilson could not convert and the fourth and one that Drew Lock turned into a 45-yard touchdown to Jaxon Smith-Njigba. One more carry for four opened the field-goal drive after Julian Love's interception. Two catches for six yards, both on the third-quarter field-goal drive.
The share is the number a rookie's first game gets read by. Seattle's running backs carried 20 times: Price 10, George Holani eight, Wilson two — and a direct snap to AJ Barner on fourth and one was wiped out by penalty. The June preview abstained on Price on purpose — nobody can grade a back who has not played — and August produced practice reports and an endorsement without a game column. The column has one entry now. It says he was the lead back by carries, that he broke two runs of 12 or more in his first quarter of professional football, and that the two short-yardage calls went to someone else — Wilson on third and one, Barner on the fourth and one that was erased. Next up is Arizona; watch whether 10 carries becomes 15, and who gets the ball on third and one.
