Ja'Marr Chase broke the game open against the Dolphins with one catch: 10 targets, 6 catches, 77 yards, 1 touchdown, +2.3 expected points added (EPA) on his targets. EPA is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position.

Up 21-10 with 47 seconds left in the third quarter, second and 7 at the Miami 45, Joe Burrow threw deep over the middle and Chase took it 45 yards for the touchdown: +4.6 EPA, +4.8 points of win probability and a 28-10 lead. That one play was worth more than his whole day's total.

He set up another score before the half. Up 14-7 with 1:15 left, third and 2 at the Miami 10, he caught a short pass for 8 yards to the 2, +1.7 EPA, and Tanner Hudson scored on the next snap. Earlier he had tackled Chop Robinson on a fumble return and knocked the ball loose again, though Joshua Uche recovered for Miami. Two of his four incompletions came on third down.

The 77 yards were his second-most of the season, after 98 in Week 3, and 10 targets trailed only that week's 12. Through Week 4 he had 21 catches on 28 targets for 212 yards and 3 touchdowns, worth +15.7 EPA.
