Joe Mixon Camp Update — August 23: Another Silent Week on the Foot
2026 NFL Season · Sunday, Aug 23
No signing, no workout, and — the part that matters — still no report that the surgically repaired foot has been cleared. Joe Mixon's free agency stays frozen exactly where June left it, and the silence keeps doing the talking.

Joe Mixon is still unsigned as of August 20-third, and this week added nothing to the file: no visit, no workout, no transaction, and no fresh word on the surgically repaired foot in any reporting we could reach this window. That last item remains the hinge. The most recent substantive assessment is still June's, from Richard Janvrin at Pro Football and Sports Network, who wrote that the silence around the injury raises concerns about severity and that Mixon may not play in 20 26 at all. Nothing since has contradicted him, and nothing has confirmed him — the file is simply frozen.
Back in June we said two ifs were doing all the work: a team, and a cleared foot, in that order of visibility but the reverse order of causation, because no signing makes sense until the medical question is answered. Neither if moved this week. What did move is the league around him — camp injuries have been claiming running backs all month, and next Sunday, August thirtieth, rosters cut to 53, the weekend that traditionally reprices every available veteran. A healthy Mixon would be among the first phones to ring that Monday. The fact that the phone has not rung through a month of exactly this kind of attrition is the quiet evidence about what teams believe the foot looks like.
The checkable things this week: any dated report that the foot has been cleared — that one fact changes everything else — and the wire through cut weekend. We'll check after cut day.
