Joe Mixon Camp Update — August 31: The Last Word Is Still July's
2026 NFL Season · Monday, Aug 31
No Joe Mixon news of any kind this window — the most recent entry on the wire is still dated July twenty-third. That late-July reporting, which this file now carries for the first time, has Texans insider Aaron Wilson reporting that Mixon has told former teammates his career is over, with retirement papers not filed, and a further operation on the foot with blood-flow complications. Cut weekend passed without his name.
When Joe Mixon's week moves the numbers, you'll know — every episode, in one weekly email.

The window produced no Joe Mixon news at all — no transaction, no medical report, no quote. Two dated news feeds we checked Monday both show the same most-recent entry: July 20-third. Cut weekend, the event our last episode named as the weekend that traditionally reprices every available veteran, came and went without his name appearing anywhere.
That late-July reporting is where the file now sits, and it is more specific and more sobering than what we carried into our last episode. Aaron Wilson, the longtime Texans insider, reported on July 20-third — as relayed by Ben Strauss at ClutchPoints — that Mixon has told former Bengals teammates his career is over, and, in the same report, that he has not filed retirement papers. Both halves matter, and they are not the same fact: nothing anywhere reports Mixon as retired. The same day, in separate reporting, Cole Thompson at USA Today's Texans Wire wrote that the injured foot recently required another operation and that Mixon has been dealing with blood-flow issues in the extremity. Houston general manager Nick Caserio had called it a "freak" injury back in January. Our August 20-third episode was still leaning on a June assessment; the late-July reporting supersedes it, and this is the first episode of ours to carry it.
Our last episode said the checkable things were a dated report that the foot has been cleared, and the wire through cut weekend. No clearance report exists — the most recent medical reporting runs the opposite direction — and the wire stayed silent straight through cut weekend. Mixon did not play a game in 20 25, and he has been unsigned since his March release by Houston, reported at the time and logged since by Draft Sharks.
The thread, reintroduced: since June this file has stacked two ifs — a team, and a cleared foot, with the foot controlling everything. On August 20-third we wrote that a month of camp attrition without the phone ringing was the quiet evidence about what teams believe the foot looks like; cut weekend was the loudest version of that test, and it returned the same answer. The second if has moved from unanswered to reported against. If the paperwork is ever filed, or the foot is ever cleared, either is a real update, and we will bring it here when it comes.
