Jordan James's name does not appear in the play-by-play of Sunday's game. He was not among the seven 49ers on the team's official inactive list at 49ers.com — James Thompson, Ephesians Prysock, Tatum Bethune, Romello Height, Nick Bosa, Enrique Cruz and Kurtis Rourke — and he was not handed the ball, not thrown to, and not named on a return, a penalty or an injury note.
The split: 21 San Francisco designed runs, 15 for Christian McCaffrey, four for Kaelon Black, two for Deebo Samuel. Last week James's four carries all came in the fourth quarter with San Francisco ahead by at least 22. There was no such stretch Sunday: the largest lead was 17, in the third quarter, and the whole fourth quarter was played within 10 points.
Back in June the preview called James a watchlist, with the situation as the entire case: a camp race with the rookie Black for the job behind McCaffrey. He had no line in Week 1, when Black carried 14 times. Week 2 was four carries for 15 yards with the result decided. Three games: Black 25 carries, James four. Three games point the same way on the order behind McCaffrey. San Francisco is home to the Broncos on Sunday the fourth.
