10 to six, 49ers, 10 18 left in the fourth quarter against the Broncos, first and 10 at the Denver 18. Brock Purdy threw short left to Mike Evans, and Evans took it 17 yards to the one. +1.6 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position — the most on any of his targets. Christian McCaffrey scored two snaps later.
The line: eight targets, five catches, 76 yards, four first downs, +2.4 expected points on the targets, a hundred 40 air yards, the most on the team. His longest, 24 yards, came on second and 10 from the San Francisco 18 with 38 seconds left in the half, and an eight-yarder converted a third and one three snaps later; that drive ended in a blocked field goal. The miss that cost the most was the deepest throw of the 49ers' day, 48 yards in the air on third and seven from the San Francisco 11 in the third quarter. San Francisco punted, and Denver fumbled the return.
Eight of Purdy's 29 throws, more than any other 49er; Deebo Samuel and George Kittle had six each.
Back in June the preview set a clean profile against his age and a new system. Weeks 1 through 3 were 16 targets, 12 catches, a hundred 37 yards and two touchdowns, and in Week 3 all six of his targets came before halftime. Sunday he was targeted in every quarter but the first. Four games: 24 targets, 17 catches, 213 yards, two touchdowns.
