Samaje Perine had the longest run of Cincinnati's day against the Jaguars, and it did not count. Jacksonville led three to nothing, 11 45 left in the second quarter, first and 10 at the Jacksonville 14. Perine went left tackle for 14 yards and a touchdown, and a holding call on Fairchild took it back; the play-by-play credits him two yards, to the spot of the foul. The drive ended in a 29-yard field goal.

The line: three carries, seven yards, no first downs, none of them successful, −2.1 expected points on the carries — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position. The other two carries went three yards on second and nine in the second quarter and two on first and 10 late in the third. One target, an incompletion over the short middle at the Jacksonville 44 in the third quarter. Chase Brown had nine of the 15 rush plays.

Back in June the preview made no call on Perine: receiving-down work on one side, a tenth-year aging curve on the other. Four games: 13 carries for 42 yards, five catches on eight targets for 51. The role is still small.
