Tracy carried twice for 14 yards and was not targeted; the second carry, second and eleven at the Dallas 29 with 2:00 left in the half, tied 7–7, was an eight-yard gain and a lost fumble, the largest win-probability swing of any pass or run in the game. Devin Singletary took the passing-down work with four targets and four catches, in a 28–20 win over the Cowboys.

Seven to seven, two minutes left in the second quarter, second and 11 at the Dallas 29. Tyrone Tracy went around left end for eight yards, Quinnen Williams knocked the ball out, and Shavon Revel recovered for Dallas at the 19. −3.2 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position — and −10.7 points of win probability, the chance of winning the game after the play against before it, the largest swing on any pass or run by either team all night. The Giants had the ball at the Dallas 29 and a tie; they walked away with nothing, and it took a Dak Prescott interception 62 seconds later to hand the possession back.
The line: two carries, 14 yards, one first down, −2.7 expected points on the carries, most of that the fumble. The other carry was six yards off left tackle on second and five with a minute 18 left in the first quarter, a first down, on the drive that ended in a punt. Both carries came before halftime; he did not touch the ball after the fumble. He was not targeted. No third-down snap with the ball in his hands, nothing inside the 20.
The split is the story. Cam Skattebo took 18 designed runs, Jaxson Dart six, Devin Singletary six, Tracy two, and Dart scrambled twice. 32 designed runs on the night, 14 before halftime and 18 after, against 17 14 pass plays, and all 18 of the second-half runs went to Skattebo, Singletary and Dart. The passing-down work — the job the preview said somebody has to do — went to Singletary: four targets, four catches, 22 yards and the nine-yard touchdown on third and five with seven 31 left. Skattebo and Tracy were not thrown to.
Back in June the preview put Tracy on the watchlist — the 40-second back at pick one 32, a job the head coach would not describe, priced for the committee's worst-case seat — and named the preseason touch script, who takes the first third-down series, as the thing to watch. Sunday answered it, and not his way: the third-down and two-minute work went to Singletary, the volume went to Skattebo, and Tracy's two carries ended with the kind of fumble the August camp updates had already flagged. One game does not close a committee; it did describe one, and the description did not have his name in the passing-down seat. The Giants are at the Rams on Monday night the 20-first. The number to watch is the first target.
