Baker Mayfield threw little and well against the Panthers: 7 of 11 for 64 yards and a touchdown, no interceptions and no sacks, in Tampa Bay's 43-13 win at Carolina, his first game since Week 3. His 11 dropbacks were worth +5.3 expected points added (EPA), what a play was worth given down, distance and field position.

The throw that mattered most came on the opening drive: third and 10 at the Carolina 45, scoreless, he went deep right to Tez Johnson for 19 yards, +2.72 EPA and 12.0 points of win probability, the estimate of each side's chance to win. Bucky Irving scored seven snaps later. His touchdown closed the half. Up 26-6, his 9-yard score to Chris Godwin came back on an illegal shift, and on second and 14 at the Carolina 14 with 12 seconds left he hit Johnson short right for the touchdown, +4.33 EPA and 33-6 after the extra point. He threw twice after halftime, both to Godwin.

It was a different day from his first three. Through Week 3 he was at -0.26 EPA per dropback over 118 dropbacks with 2 touchdown passes and 2 interceptions; here it was +0.48. Completion percentage over expected (CPOE), which compares completions with what each throw's difficulty predicts, was +1.6, against +0.3 through Week 3.
