Baker Mayfield won without a completion against the Falcons: 0 of 3, sacked once, in a 16-0 win at home in the rain. Over 5 dropbacks he was worth -6.5 expected points added (EPA), what a play was worth given down, distance and field position, -1.30 a dropback. Every pass came on third down. He missed Ted Hurst III deep right on third and 5 at the Atlanta 28 and Chris Godwin deep left on third and 7 at the 16, and Tampa Bay kicked field goals both times. His third, short left for Kenny Gainwell on third and 5, fell incomplete and ended a three-and-out, and Harold Perkins Jr. sacked him on third and 7 at the Tampa Bay 48 in the third quarter. He did not throw again.
The ball gave him trouble on the ground too. He fumbled and recovered three times on running plays. The first, up 3-0 at the Atlanta 15, ended with his pitch to Bucky Irving and Irving's fumble out of the end zone, -5.2 EPA. On the third, second and 14 at the Atlanta 32 in the second quarter, he picked it up at the 42 and ran it back to the 27; Chase McLaughlin kicked a 42-yard field goal two snaps later. He ran 4 times for 14 yards, including a 7-yard run up the middle on second and 6.
Through Week 7 he was at -0.17 a dropback, -22.4 EPA on 129 dropbacks, and in Week 7 at Carolina he completed 7 of 11. This was his fewest throws in a game this season, by eight.
