Six to three, Jaguars, a minute 36 left in the first half, first and goal at the Cincinnati three against the Bengals. Bhayshul Tuten went left guard for the touchdown, and a holding call on Harrison took it back. It was the second Tuten touchdown of the quarter to be called back. With seven 51 left he had gone 44 yards off right guard from the Cincinnati 44, and another holding call erased that one too; that drive ended in a field goal. This time he ran six yards to the seven on first and 13, and on the next snap Trevor Lawrence found Brian Thomas for the touchdown.
The line: 17 carries, 73 yards, no touchdown, three first downs, six of the 17 successful, −0.5 expected points on the carries — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position. Two targets, two catches, 18 yards. The longest counted carry was 20 yards up the middle on the first snap after Oluokun's interception at the start of the fourth quarter, pushed out at the Jacksonville 35, +1.2. His first carry of the day went 15 yards around left end from the Jacksonville 10; his next two lost four and one. Nine carries before halftime, eight after, six of them in the fourth quarter, including three for nine yards on the 76-yard drive Chris Rodriguez finished with a touchdown.
The split: Tuten 17, Rodriguez six, Parker Washington and Lawrence one each. Rodriguez had the touchdown, from 25 yards.
Back in June the preview said the expectations on Tuten were built on a job he had not won, with the split with Rodriguez the whole bet. The four weeks have gone 15 carries to six, 13 to six, 15 to eight, and 17 to six. Four games: 60 carries, 277 yards, two touchdowns. Four weeks of the same shape is an answer on the carries. The touchdowns this week went elsewhere, one of them two snaps after his own was called back.
