Brenton Strange's touchdown was the last play of a drive KC Concepcion's fumble had started. Second quarter, six 24 left, first and 10 at the Cleveland 14, Jacksonville up 17 to nothing: Trevor Lawrence out of the shotgun, short middle to Strange, 14 yards, touchdown, 24 to nothing. Worth +2.1 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position. Two snaps earlier, on second and six from the 28, the same throw had been aimed at him over the middle and Grant Delpit broke it up; Parker Washington converted the third and six in between.
The line: three targets, two catches, 23 yards, one touchdown, +2.4 on the targets. The other catch was nine yards on first and 10 from the Jacksonville 31 with eight 27 left in the third, the first play after Cleveland's field goal, on the drive that ended in Cameron Little's 40-yarder. He was also flagged for a false start with 12 39 left in the third that turned second and 14 at the Cleveland 27 into second and 19 at the 32 — the down on which Jakobi Meyers caught a 32-yard touchdown on the next snap.
Jacksonville's tight ends were thrown to five times on 23 throws: three to Strange, one to Nate Boerkircher, a nine-yard catch to open the second quarter, and one to Quintin Morris, incomplete. Strange's three targets tied Brian Thomas for second on the team behind Washington's six. Two of his three came before halftime, when the Jaguars had 19 pass plays, and one after, when they had five. Four Jaguars caught touchdowns and he was the one tight end among them.
Back in June the preview's number for Strange was availability — about 65 percent, 12 games last season, a tight end whose harder task had been staying on the field rather than producing on it. Sunday he was on it for a blowout and came out of it with a score, which is what the June read said the upside looked like when the first condition held. One game does not make a season of availability, and a three-target day is a modest role in a passing game that had 19 throws before halftime. Jacksonville is at the Broncos on Sunday the twentieth.
