22 to 17, Jaguars, two 34 left in the fourth quarter against the Bengals, third and eight at the Jacksonville 30, and Cincinnati had just called its first timeout. Trevor Lawrence threw short over the middle to Brenton Strange for 15 yards and the first down at the 45. +1.3 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position — and 7.7 points of win probability, the chance of winning the game after the play against before it. The Bengals spent their last two timeouts on the next two snaps, and when they got the ball back at their own 17 there were a minute 44 left and none to use.
The line: eight targets, seven catches, 95 yards, five first downs, +6 point oh expected points on the targets, the most of any Jaguar thrown to. 56 of the yards came after the catch. The catches went 23, 14, 12, 11, 16, four and 15. The 23 was third and 18 from the Jacksonville 11 in a scoreless first quarter, +3.2, the biggest figure on any Jacksonville offensive play; the 14 came on the same drive, third and 20, and set up the 55-yard field goal. The 11, at the Cincinnati 47 in the third quarter, came loose when Hill hit him and went out of bounds at the 29, Jacksonville's ball. The 16 was second and four at the Cincinnati 41, to the 25, the snap before Chris Rodriguez's touchdown. The one incompletion was deep right on the first Jacksonville drive of the fourth quarter. Five targets after halftime, four of them in the fourth quarter.
The split: eight of the 23 Jaguars throws, 35 percent, twice anyone else's count; Jakobi Meyers had four.
Back in June the preview's case for Strange was the target column, five a game last season and climbing, with availability, about 65 percent for his career, as the harder ask. The four weeks have gone three, two, five and eight targets: 18 in all, four and a half a game, 14 catches, a hundred 67 yards, one touchdown, and he has played all four. Sunday's 95 yards are more than his first three games combined.
