17 to 13, Chiefs, 13 25 left in the game, third and 11 at the Kansas City 46. Kirk Cousins threw short right to Brock Bowers 15 yards past the line, and Bowers carried it to the Kansas City 25, 21 yards. +3.2 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position — and 20.6 points of win probability, the chance of winning the game after the play against before it. No Raiders play gained more win probability all game. The drive stalled at the 25 and Matt Gay's field goal made it 17 to 16.
The line: 11 targets, six catches, 86 yards, one touchdown, five first downs, +5.1 expected points on the targets. 18 yards on first and 10 from the Las Vegas 12 in the second quarter; seven on second and 15; 16 on third and nine with 53 seconds left in the half, on the drive that ended in a 48-yard field goal for a 13-10 halftime lead; four on third and three in the third quarter, converted; the 21; and the touchdown, down 30 to 19 with a minute 54 left, second and 10 at the 20, deep right, 20 yards in the air. Cody White caught the two-point try, and it was 30 to 27. Six targets came on third down; three were caught and all three moved the chains. The three that missed: third and nine deep left in the first quarter, then third and seven and third and 11 in the third. Six targets before halftime, five after.
11 targets were 23 percent of the 48 Raiders throws with a receiver, the most on the team; Michael Mayer had 10, Tre Tucker and Ashton Jeanty eight each.
Back in June the preview leaned against Bowers, with targets per game as the case and the caveat that a healthy Bowers had exactly the volume the pattern rewards. Two games into his season: 13 targets, then 11. 24 targets, 16 catches, 202 yards, two touchdowns. The volume the caveat described has shown up twice.
