Bucky Irving smashed the Cowboys for the best game of his season: 21 carries, 165 yards, 1 touchdown, and +6.3 expected points added (EPA) on the ground, +0.30 per carry. EPA is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position. He also caught 2 of 3 targets for 10 yards and a second touchdown.

The defining run came early in the third quarter, with Tampa Bay down 10-7. First and 10 at the Buccaneers 14, 14:54 left: Irving went off left tackle and ran until Downs pushed him out of bounds at the Dallas 14, 72 yards later. That was +4.8 EPA and +15.8 points of win probability. On the next snap Emeka Egbuka ran in from the 14 for Tampa Bay's first lead, 14-10.

The night built slowly. He had 9 carries for 35 yards in the first half and 12 for 130 in the second. His 5-yard touchdown catch on the first snap of the second quarter tied it 7-7, and his 1-yard run in the third, after carries of 9 and 5, made it 21-10.

Weeks 1 through 4 he ran 56 times for 241 yards and -0.24 EPA, about zero per carry, with a long of 38 and a best game of 89 yards. His 165 on Thursday nearly doubled that best game. Five games: 77 carries, 406 yards, 2 rushing touchdowns.
