Skattebo carried 18 times for 81 yards and the three-yard touchdown on first and goal with 6:45 left in the first quarter, was not targeted, fumbled and recovered his own ball at the Dallas 29 with 12:04 left in the game, and took five of the twelve snaps on the drive that ran out the clock, in a 28–20 win over the Cowboys.

Nothing to nothing, six 45 left in the first quarter, first and goal at the Dallas three. Cam Skattebo went around left end for the touchdown and the first lead of the game. +0.8 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position — and 1.5 points of win probability, the chance of winning the game after the play against before it. It capped a drive that started at the New York 17, on which he had carried twice before, for five and for three.
The line: 18 carries, 81 yards, one touchdown, six first downs, eight of the 18 successful, −0.6 expected points on the carries, and a longest of 13. Six carries before halftime for 17 yards; 12 after for 64. He was not targeted. The one third-down carry, third and two with 13 31 left in the half, went for no gain — the only third down the Giants failed to convert all night — and New York punted. With 12 oh four left in the game he went seven yards around left end, fumbled on Cobie Durant's tackle, and recovered it himself at the Dallas 29; the play still came out at +1.1 expected points. The last five carries of his night were the clock: one, −1, 13 on second and 16, three and eight, on the 12-snap drive that started with five 16 left and ended in three kneel-downs, with Dallas never touching the ball again.
The split: Skattebo 18 designed runs, Jaxson Dart six, Devin Singletary six, Tyrone Tracy two, and two Dart scrambles. 32 designed runs on the night, 14 before halftime and 18 after, against 17 14 pass plays, and Skattebo took 12 of the 18 second-half runs. The Giants ran for a hundred 70 yards on 34 rush plays counting the scrambles, the fourth-most rushing yards among the 30 teams that had played by Sunday night, worth +2.1 expected points. The pass-catching went elsewhere: Singletary was targeted four times and caught four, one for a touchdown; Skattebo and Tracy were not thrown to.
Back in June the preview put Skattebo on the watchlist — the nineteenth back at pick 40 after eight games of featured-back work and a surgically repaired ankle, with the per-game ceiling saying draft him and the leg saying demand the discount — and named two things to watch: availability and explosiveness first, then a touchdown rate with give in it. Sunday answered the first: 18 carries, all four quarters, a 13-yarder in the fourth, and the lead-back share the preview said was his if the leg held. The efficiency was ordinary — under five a carry, eight successful runs of 18 — and the receiving role the preview counted on went to Singletary. One game confirms a workload, not a ceiling. The Giants are at the Rams on Monday night the 20-first. The number to watch is the target column, which read zero.
