27 to 24, Giants, four 47 left in the fourth quarter, first and 10 at midfield against the Cardinals. Cam Skattebo carried five straight times: four yards, three, then four around left end on third and three for the first down, then −1, then six. Arizona spent two timeouts inside the last two and a half minutes. The third-down run was worth +0.9 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position — and 4.8 points of win probability, the chance of winning the game after the play against before it. Zvada kicked a 52-yard field goal with two 16 left, and it was 30 to 24.
The line: 18 carries, 58 yards, no touchdown, three first downs, five of the 18 successful, −3.4 expected points on the carries; one target, one catch, eight yards on third and four in the last minute of the half. The longest run went eight. The costliest was third and two at the Arizona 19 in the first quarter, two yards lost, and a field goal instead of a first down.
The split: 28 Giants designed runs, 18 for Skattebo, nine for Najee Harris, one for Tyrone Tracy.
Back in June the preview put Skattebo on the watchlist with his availability and his explosiveness the things to watch. The availability has held for four straight weeks of lead-back work. The burst has not shown: 3.2 yards a carry on Sunday. Four games: 68 carries, 235 yards, one touchdown.
