Christian McCaffrey got the most out of each touch against the Falcons and did not get many: 7 carries, 39 yards, a touchdown and +3.4 expected points added (EPA), plus 6 catches on 7 targets for 61 yards and +4.5 EPA. EPA is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position. Five of his 7 carries gained positive EPA.

He built the opening drive. On third and 1 at the San Francisco 45 he ran 14 yards up the middle, +1.49 EPA, then caught a 16-yarder, and on second and 14 at the Atlanta 29 caught a short pass to the left and reached the 5, 24 yards, +2.52 EPA and 7.6 points of win probability, the estimate of each side's chance to win. After Kaelon Black was stopped twice at the 1, he scored on fourth and 1, +2.29 EPA. Then he had no touch between 6:59 of the first quarter and 8:15 of the third; a third-quarter injury update had him returning to the game. Down 26-14 in the fourth, his 6-yard catch to the 1 set up the touchdown that made it 26-20, and a 10-yard run came back on a holding penalty.

The 7 carries were his fewest of the season. Through Week 6 he had 77 carries for 350 yards, 7 touchdowns and +8.7 EPA, +0.11 a carry; here it was +0.48. He had caught 28 of 35 targets for 190 yards and -3.1 EPA.
