No usage note on him surfaced in the finale coverage we could reach, the third straight game the recaps have passed over him, and the man listed beside him as a primary backup on the last depth chart, Calvin Austin III, is on injured reserve with a torn ACL.

The question last week's episode ended on — whether Darnell Mooney would be on the roster Monday — has its answer: he is one of five wide receivers on the initial 53 the Giants announced Sunday, per the team's official release. No report names him or explains the decision; the release is the whole of it, and it is enough to retire the roster-bubble question the last two episodes carried. The competition at the position thinned all around him: Braxton Berrios was terminated, Jalin Hyatt cut, Isaiah Hodgins terminated and Xavier Gipson waived, per the team's releases and GMenHQ's cut tracking.
The harder change is the one beside him on the chart. The last unofficial depth chart, from John Fennelly at Giants Wire on August 20-fifth, had Nabers and Slayton as "the number ones," with "Calvin Austin III and Darnell Mooney the primary backups." Austin tore his ACL in Tuesday's practice and went on injured reserve Thursday, per the team's announcement — the week's one bad injury, and offensive coordinator Matt Nagy's words are the room's own: "the next guy has got to step up and play." As for Mooney's own week: no snap, target or catch note on him surfaced in any finale coverage we could reach — the third consecutive game the accessible recaps have passed over him — but those recaps named only a handful of skill players and most starters sat Friday, per Matt Sidney at GMenHQ, so absence from a writeup is not proof of absence from the field.
Back in June our case for Mooney rested on the 72-target Atlanta season being the real part of his game, conditional on winning an actual role — and camp closed without showing him one. A one-on-one touchdown was a skill flash, not a role, and nothing this week changed that. What changed is the math around him: a five-receiver room on a roster carrying four tight ends and a fullback, the man who shared the backup line with him out for the year, and Malik Nabers' return still advancing, with the first contact drills of his rehab during the week, per Patricia Traina at Giants On SI.
