The full read
Garrett Wilson drew the most targets on the team against the Raiders and got little value from them: 12 targets, 6 catches, 83 yards and +0.9 expected points added (EPA). EPA is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position.
He opened fast. On the first snap of the game, first and 10 at the Jets' 35, Geno Smith threw deep left and Wilson caught it for 31 yards to the Raiders' 34, +1.9 EPA. The drive reached the 2 and ended in a field goal. The next drive also ended in a field goal after a deep throw to him on third and 2 at the Raiders' 17 fell incomplete, -1.9 EPA and 5.2 points of win probability, the estimate of each side's chance to win.
The last two targets came with the game on them. Down 38-33 with 20 seconds left, he caught a 15-yarder to midfield and an unnecessary-roughness penalty on Jeremy Chinn added 15 more. On the next snap, from the Raiders' 35, Smith threw deep left for him and Chinn intercepted in the end zone, -1.7 EPA and 18.0 points of win probability. Six of his 12 targets fell incomplete or were intercepted.
Per target it was far below his season. Through Week 7 he had 37 catches on 51 targets for 444 yards, 3 touchdowns and +23.9 EPA, +0.46 a target; here it was +0.07.
