The Jets spent cut-day week deciding who stands behind Geno Smith, and the answer is: one rookie. Bailey Zappe was released on August 20-ninth, per Rich Cimini at ESPN via Devon Platana's cuts tracker at Jets on SI — a move the tracker read as the team showing confidence in its young quarterbacks. Within a day, half of what that framing rested on was gone: Brady Cook was waived on August thirtieth per the team's own transaction page, and the initial 53 carries two quarterbacks, Smith and Klubnik, per Connor Long at Jets X-Factor. Klubnik won the job off his worst outing of the summer — he started the finale and played the full first half, six of 13 for 59 yards with an interception, per Nick Faria at Jets on SI and the team's recap.
