Ja'Marr Chase got the ball more than in any game this season against the Titans: 16 targets, 11 catches, 141 yards and a touchdown, each a season high. He drew 48% of Cincinnati's air yards, 218 of them. Those targets were worth +4.3 expected points added (EPA), what a play was worth given down, distance and field position, or +0.27 a target.
The touchdown came down 13-0 early in the second quarter, one snap after a holding call wiped out a Chase Brown score and left third and 18 at the Tennessee 30. Joe Burrow threw deep middle and Chase took it in from 30 yards: +4.7 EPA and 12.3 points of win probability, the estimate of each side's chance to win. His most valuable catch in the second half came down 28-23 with 8:02 left, on third and 10 at the Tennessee 48: 23 yards deep right to the 25, +2.7 EPA and 20.0 points of win probability. Mike Gesicki scored on the next snap. In overtime he caught 17 yards on the first play and 14 to the 9 on the fourth, and Burrow scrambled in on the next.
The per-target number came down because two of the targets were Amani Hooker's interceptions, both on deep throws to the right, the second at the Tennessee 5 with the score 21-21. Through Week 7 he had caught 32 of 45 targets for 351 yards and 5 touchdowns, +23.9 EPA, +0.53 a target. He has caught a touchdown in five of his seven games.
