Jameson Williams Camp Update — August 23: A Little Shoulder, Campbell Unbothered
2026 NFL Season · Sunday, Aug 23
Williams missed the start of the week with a shoulder issue his coach waved off in one breath — "He's got a little shoulder. He's good to go, though." No game action followed, so the complete-receiver storyline sits on pause rather than in doubt.

Jameson Williams's week opened on the injury report: he missed practice Sunday and Monday with a shoulder issue, and Dan Campbell dismissed it in a single breath, per Josh Helmer at Lions Wire — "He's got a little shoulder. He's good to go, though." The tracker at Side Lion Report, per Candace Pedraza, filed it the same way: not expected to keep him out long. That was effectively the whole Williams file for the week. He did not figure in the coverage of Saturday's 17 to 13 win over Washington, a game Detroit played with Jared Goff and the front-line offense watching while Josh Dobbs and Luke Altmyer handled the quarterbacking, per Tim Twentyman at the team's website.
A minor shoulder in late August is a real entry, not a scare story — the honest read is that it cost him a few practices in a week when the first-team offense wasn't doing much anyway, and no reporting connected it to anything larger.
Back in June we called Williams's breakout real — 65 catches and 1117 yards — with the league-leading drop count the one fixable flaw, and after an early camp full of contested-catch evidence aimed at exactly that, this week added nothing in either direction: no live targets, no drops, no setbacks beyond the shoulder his coach declined to treat as one.
What to watch: whether Williams is a full practice participant when game-week preparation starts, and — the item that has waited all summer — his first live deep targets, wherever they arrive, since the drop count only exists in real games. Cutdown is Sunday, August thirtieth. We'll check after cut day.
