Jayden Reed — Week 2: One Catch, Then Carted Off

Nothing to nothing, 14 oh nine left in the first quarter, second and 11 at the Green Bay 28, the second offensive snap of the afternoon. Jordan Love threw short left to Jayden Reed, who was tackled by Demario Davis at the 32 for four yards. The play-by-play's next line is that Reed was injured during the play. That is his whole day: one target, one catch, four yards, caught five yards behind the line of scrimmage by the air-yards figure, −0.1 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position.

What the play-by-play does not carry, the reporting does. Yahoo Sports reported that Reed suffered a neck injury, was placed on a backboard and carted off the field, and that head coach Matt LaFleur said afterward that Reed has movement in all his extremities and would stay overnight in New York for observation. LaFleur did not give further detail, and this episode will not guess at any.

The targets he left behind went mostly one way. Christian Watson was thrown to 11 times, Matthew Golden six, Tucker Kraft and Skyy Moore three each, out of 29 Love throws.

Back in June the preview called Reed a watchlist: the 40-second receiver off the board, two productive seasons in the slot before a broken collarbone ended last season after five games, a contract extension in April, with his health first and the target split second as the September questions. Week 1 was seven targets, three catches and 20 yards, and that episode put the health half in the plus column. Sunday took it back out after two snaps. There is nothing in one catch to say about the split, and the only update that matters is the one LaFleur gives next. Green Bay is home to the Falcons on Thursday the 20-fourth.
