Jonah Coleman decided the game against the Chiefs on back-to-back snaps: 11 carries for 41 yards and the winning touchdown, plus 4 catches on 5 targets for 63 yards. His 15 touches were the most he has had in a game this season. Expected points added (EPA), what a play was worth given down, distance and field position, had his targets at +2.5 and his carries at +0.2, with 6 of the 11 carries successful plays, meaning they gained what the situation asked for.
Down 24-21 with 2:31 left, first and 10 at the Denver 44, Bo Nix threw short right and Coleman caught it a yard past the line, then ran 50 more to the Kansas City 5: +3.8 EPA and 23.7 points of win probability, the estimate of each side's chance to win. On the next snap he went up the middle for 5 yards and the touchdown that put Denver ahead with 2:00 left, +1.4 EPA and 9.3 points more.
The goal line went the other way earlier. Late in the half, at the Kansas City 1, he was stopped for no gain on first down and again on third, -1.1 EPA on the second, before Nix threw the touchdown on fourth. His 10- and 7-yard runs came on the fourth-quarter touchdown drive that started at the Denver 20.
The 63 receiving yards were more than his 34 through Week 7, when he had 19 carries for 93 yards, a touchdown and +0.12 EPA a carry in three games. Here it was +0.02 a carry.
