Brooks carried 5 times for 16 yards and caught his one target for a loss of 5 on second and seven at the Atlanta 14. Four of the five carries came after halftime with Carolina ahead by 17 or more, the longest a 7-yarder from the Atlanta 20. Chuba Hubbard carried 12 times in a 34–3 win over the Falcons.

Seven to nothing, Panthers, five 24 left in the first quarter, second and seven at the Atlanta 14. Bryce Young threw short left to Jonathon Brooks, six yards behind the line of scrimmage, and Brooks was tackled at the 19 for a loss of five. −1.5 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position. The third-and-12 throw that followed fell incomplete, and Carolina kicked a 37-yard field goal.
The line: five carries, 16 yards, no first downs, one of the five successful, −0.8 expected points on the carries; one target, one catch, −5 yards. The carries: three up the middle on first and 10 at the Atlanta 17, the snap before the catch; −1 behind the left tackle in the third quarter; seven around left end from the Atlanta 20, on the first snap after Devin Lloyd's 53-yard interception return; three behind the left guard from the 10, three snaps later; and four around left end on second and 23 from the Carolina five in the fourth. One carry before halftime, four after. The drive that began at the Atlanta 20 reached the two and ended on downs.

Back in June the preview made no call on Brooks, on purpose: nine career carries and two reconstructions of the same knee, a lottery ticket whose odds were unknowable rather than bad. Week 1 was four carries and a 48-yard catch that was Carolina's biggest win-probability play of the day. Sunday was five carries and a catch that lost five. Nine carries in two games have doubled the career total he brought into the season, and the role has been the same size both weeks, behind Hubbard. Two games do not say when or whether it grows. Carolina is at the Browns on Sunday the 20-seventh.
