Kaytron Allen played Friday's preseason finale in Baltimore, fumbled after contact, and made the roster two days later anyway. The fumble is attributed — Philip Hughes at Commanders On SI put him on the wrong side of a first-half studs-and-duds column — and it is the only individual note reported about any Washington back that night, in a 41 to three loss in which the team was outgained 456 to a hundred 77, went one of 12 on third down, and managed a single first-half first down, per Quentin Corpuel at BaltimoreRavens.com. 41 players sat that game, including every back ahead of Allen, per the team's announcement, so the rookie was auditioning behind an offense whose night Dan Quinn declined to soften afterward, per the transcript published by Commanders On SI. No source gives Allen's carry count or says he started; what is attested is that he was out there, and that the ball came out after contact.
Sunday answered the question the June preview called the checkable: he survived the cut. Last week's watch line asked about start-of-game work Friday and special-teams snaps. The first is half-lit: he played and was the only back the coverage named, but no write-up we accessed publishes a Washington backfield box, so no start or workload can be stated. On special teams, the window produced nothing at all — the door the June preview said opens first has still not been reported open. Back in June we kept the claims small: sixth-round backs behind established veterans have no predictable route to touches, and cutdown survival was the bar. The bar is cleared, fumble and all.
