Cut day gave Kenyon Sadiq the answer the practice field couldn't. The Jets kept four tight ends on the initial 53 — Mason Taylor, Jeremy Ruckert, Jelani Woods and Sadiq, per Connor Long at Jets X-Factor, with the team's own August thirtieth page confirming the four-deep count — and Sadiq appears on none of the team's injury designations. That absence is the meaningful part. The Jets used reserve/PUP on Tyler Baron that same day and used the designated-to-return form of injured reserve twice, on Anez Cooper and VJ Payne. Either tool would have bought a roster spot at the cost of Sadiq's September. Neither was used on him.
The other new facts of the window arrived five days earlier, in the same sentence. The team's August 20-fifth practice report from Amanda Vogt and Eric Allen says the Jets "continue to target Week 1" for Sadiq, Breece Hall and D'Angelo Ponds, and that all three "did some running on an adjacent field." That is two things the file did not have: a dated, forward-looking statement on him since the July procedure — the prior episode noted the team's earlier Week 1 confidence was the only forward-looking statement on file — and a report of him out on a field, moving, which the prior episode had nothing of.
What still hasn't happened is a practice. A side field is not a team period, and no report in the window puts him in one; he is absent from the finale recap, so the install keeps being run without him — the same cost the prior episode named. The room itself held steady through the cut: all four tight ends stayed, and the two other tight ends the Jets carried through the summer, Connor Hulstein and Chase Curtis, were waived-injured per the team's ledger.
The June preview asked for patience on a rookie tight end, and the August file has tested it: a minor procedure, a complication, an absence that consumed all of camp. The prior episode's line was that the cost is the role, not the roster — and cut day confirmed exactly that split. Its watch line asked for any sign of him returning to the field, and the answer is a partial one: a side field on August 20-fifth, not a practice field, plus a Week 1 target the team put a date on.
