Kyler Murray was accurate and careful against the Saints: 24 of 30, 229 yards, 1 touchdown, no interceptions, 2 sacks, plus 10 runs for 51 yards. He was worth +2.9 expected points added (EPA) on 38 dropbacks, +0.08 per dropback. EPA is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position.
The defining throw went wrong after the catch. Up 13-7 with 2:49 left in the third quarter, third and 15 at the New Orleans 19, he threw short left to Myles Price, who reached the 12 before Martin Emerson forced a fumble. Jonas Sanker recovered at the 13 and ran 87 yards for the touchdown that tied it 13-13. The play went on Murray's ledger as -10.1 EPA and -36.9 points of win probability, the biggest swing of the game.
He answered on the next drive. At 13-13 with 2:26 left in the third, first and 10 at his own 30, he threw deep left to Jeshaun Jones for 32 yards (+2.1 EPA, +10.7 points of win probability), and Aaron Jones finished the drive with an 8-yard touchdown run. Earlier, an 18-yard scramble on third and 10 (+2.8 EPA) set up his 15-yard touchdown to Justin Jefferson on third and 6.
It was a clear step up from Weeks 1 through 4: -13.3 EPA on 84 dropbacks, -0.16 per dropback, and 2 interceptions. His completion percentage over expected (CPOE), how often he completed passes against what their difficulty predicted, was +11.8, after +2.8 through Week 4.
