Seven to seven, a minute oh seven left in the first half, second and six at the Arizona six. Jacoby Brissett threw short right for Marvin Harrison, incomplete. −0.3 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position — and −2.7 points of win probability, the chance of winning the game after the play against before it. On the next snap Brissett found Michael Wilson for nine and the first down. That incompletion was Harrison's only target of the game.
The line: one target, no catches, three air yards. Brissett threw 28 times: 10 to Trey McBride, seven to Wilson, three each to Jeremiyah Love and Kendrick Bourne, two to Tyler Allgeier, one to Harrison, and two with no receiver. Of the six Cardinals thrown to, Harrison had the fewest. He does not appear anywhere else in the play-by-play.
Back in June the preview made no call on Harrison: priced right on top of two seasons of production, with six targets a game the volume that had never been a lead receiver's volume, and the target share the thing to watch, because until it climbed the talent was theoretical. Week 1 was three targets and one catch, a 33-yard deep ball that was Arizona's most valuable pass play of that game. Sunday was one target. Through two games it is four of Arizona's 65 throws, to Wilson's 14. The number the preview wanted to see climb went down, on a day the whole passing game produced 95 yards and no completion longer than nine. Two games settle little, and four targets is a small number in any sample. Arizona is at the 49ers on Sunday the 20-seventh.
