13 to three, Jaguars, eight 48 left in the third quarter, third and seven at the Jacksonville 15. Joe Burrow threw short over the middle to Mike Gesicki, and Gesicki scored. +3 point oh expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position — and 11 and a half points of win probability, the chance of winning the game after the play against before it, the second-largest gain on any Cincinnati snap. The extra point made it 13 to 10.

The line: five targets, three catches, 40 yards, one touchdown, two first downs, +3.3 expected points on the targets. All five targets came after halftime. The other catches were seven yards to the Jacksonville 23 on the fourth-quarter drive Burrow finished with a one-yard touchdown run, and 18 deep right to the Jacksonville 36 on the final drive, out of bounds with a minute 38 left. The two incompletions: first and 10 from the Cincinnati 26 late in the third quarter, and second and 10 at the Jacksonville 21 with a minute five left, deep left, two snaps before the fourth-and-10 that ended it.

The split: five of the 53 Cincinnati throws that had a receiver, behind Tee Higgins's 16, Chase Brown's 11, Dohnte Meyers's nine and Mitchell Tinsley's seven.

Back in June the preview called Gesicki a back-end tight end, a tertiary option at about three and a half targets a game. The four weeks have gone seven, none, three and five: 15 targets, 11 catches, a hundred 55 yards, three touchdowns. That is close to the preview's rate in volume, and three touchdowns in four games is more than the role it described.
