Odunze's forty-seven-yard catch down the right side — second and eight from the Chicago forty-seven, first quarter, tied 7–7, pushed out at the Carolina six — was the biggest win-probability swing of any pass or run by either team all day. He was thrown to three times that counted, all before halftime, and caught two for fifty-two yards, after being listed questionable on Friday with a calf, per Michael Johnson at Yahoo Sports, in a 59–37 win over the Panthers.

Second and eight at the Chicago 47, three oh one left in the first quarter, seven to seven. Caleb Williams went deep right for Rome Odunze, 44 yards in the air, and Odunze was pushed out of bounds at the Carolina six. That catch was worth +3.8 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position — and 15 points of win probability, the chance of winning the game after the play against before it. No pass or run by either team moved win probability more all afternoon. Three plays later D'Andre Swift scored from the one, and Chicago led for the first time.
The line: three targets, two catches, 52 yards, no touchdowns, 90 air yards on the three throws, +4.0 expected points on the targets. The other two were both on the drive that ended the half — five yards short middle on second and 16 from the Chicago 14 with two minutes left, and, with five seconds left, a deep right throw from the Chicago 38, 41 yards in the air, incomplete, the last snap before halftime. A fourth throw his way in the third quarter, second and 20 at the Carolina 21 with four 31 left, fell incomplete and was wiped out by roughing the passer, which gave Chicago first and 10 at the 11 and, three snaps later, Swift's second touchdown. After halftime, nothing counted. The play-by-play has him twice more: a holding penalty on the first snap from scrimmage, and the onside kick he fell on at the Carolina 49 with four minutes left.
Where he sat: nine targets to Kalif Raymond, five to Luther Burden, three each to Odunze and Cole Kmet. Chicago threw 16 times before halftime and 13 after, and ran 19 times in the second half; none of the 13 that counted went to Odunze.
Odunze had been listed questionable with a calf on Friday's report, per Michael Johnson at Yahoo Sports; he played, and the play-by-play carries no injury note on him. Back in June the preview called him a breakout the market was already buying — 12 games built on role consolidation more than efficiency, with a target-share foundation that tends to carry. Sunday's three targets are not a target share, and one of them was the biggest play of the game. One game with 29 throws in it does not settle a share either way. Chicago is home to the Vikings on Sunday the twentieth. The number to watch is targets, not yards.
