Samaje Perine had his best game of the season against the Dolphins: 14 carries, 68 yards, and a 6-yard touchdown catch. He was worth +2.1 expected points added (EPA) on the ground and +3.1 on his 2 targets. EPA is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position.

At 7-7 early in the second quarter, third and 6 at the Miami 6, he caught a short pass over the middle from Joe Burrow for the touchdown: +3.0 EPA, +5.3 points of win probability and a 14-7 lead.

The carries were steady rather than long. His longest went 11 yards, twice, and his success rate, the share of carries that gained positive EPA, was 64%. Up 28-18 with 7:12 left, he carried 6 times on a drive that began at the Cincinnati 4, including a third-and-1 conversion and an 11-yarder. He also converted third and 1 in the first quarter.

It was a different role from his first four weeks. Through Week 4 he had 13 carries for 42 yards, -3.8 EPA and a 15% success rate; he out-carried Chase Brown 14 to 13 this week.
