Seven to nothing, Bears, a minute 15 left in the first quarter, second and 20 at the Philadelphia 10. The down and distance came from the snap before, a 19-yard Saquon Barkley run wiped out by a holding penalty. Jalen Hurts threw short right to Tank Bigsby at the line of scrimmage, Bigsby got to the 15 for five yards, and the ball came out, forced by Booker and recovered by Chicago's Woods at the 15. −4.0 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position — and −7.7 points of win probability, the chance of winning the game after the play against before it. Only Andy Dalton's end-zone interception cost the Eagles more win probability on a pass or run all night. Chicago took over at the 15 and got to the one, where a Colston Loveland touchdown was reversed on review; D'Andre Swift lost two from there, and two incompletions later the Bears turned it over on downs at the three. The fumble cost no points.
That was the whole of his night from scrimmage: one target, one catch, five yards, one fumble lost, no carries. Philadelphia ran 16 designed runs, 15 of them Barkley's and the other Hurts's one-yard touchdown, with Will Shipley thrown to twice and not handed the ball either. 12 designed runs before halftime, four after, on a night the Eagles trailed by 13 or more for most of the second half.
Back in June the preview made no call on Bigsby: the backup behind Barkley, with a seven-touchdown season in Jacksonville two years earlier as the proof he could do more if the job opened. Week One was one carry. Week Two, with Barkley hurt on the first snap, was 13 carries and a touchdown. Monday, with Barkley back for all of it, was one touch and a turnover. Three games: 14 carries, 36 yards, one touchdown, three catches for 10 yards. The role is exactly what the preview said it was, and the one week it was more came from an injury. Philadelphia hosts the Rams on Sunday the fourth.
