Ferguson's only target Thursday was fourth and five at the San Francisco forty-nine with seven fifty-eight left in the fourth quarter, Rams down twenty: Matthew Stafford deep right, twenty-four yards in the air, incomplete, and San Francisco took over on downs. One target, no catches, on a night Rams tight ends were thrown to six times, in a 27–7 loss in Melbourne.

Terrance Ferguson was thrown to once Thursday night, and it was the Rams' last real chance. Fourth and five at the San Francisco 49, seven 58 left in the fourth quarter, Los Angeles down 27 to seven: Matthew Stafford went deep right for Ferguson, 24 yards in the air, incomplete. Turnover on downs. That play was worth −2.8 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position, and a fourth-down incompletion at midfield hands the other team the ball where it stood.
That was the whole line: one target, no catches, no yards. The Rams threw 28 times and six of those went to tight ends — two to Colby Parkinson, two to Tyler Higbee, one to Davis Allen, one to Ferguson. Higbee caught both of his, for eight and for five, and lost a fumble on the second; Allen caught a 13-yarder on third and one and was injured on the play, in the third quarter, and the play-by-play later notes he returned; Parkinson caught one of two for six. The room's night was four catches on six targets, and the one touchdown the offense scored was a Kyren Williams run.
The only other thing the data says about Ferguson's night is where he was on the field when the ball went elsewhere, and the play-by-play does not say that. Nine of the 28 throws went to Puka Nacua and six to Davante Adams; of the other 13, six went to tight ends, three to Kyren Williams, one to Ronnie Rivers, two to other receivers, and one carried no intended receiver.
Back in June the preview's read on Ferguson was that 11 games in a crowded room had produced no clear target share, no usage footprint, and little to project forward. Thursday added one target to that record, on a down where the offense had to throw. It is not a role, and it was not expected to be one; the question the preview asked — does he hold a consistent spot in this room — is still open after one game. Los Angeles is home to the Giants on Monday the 20-first.
