Ferguson was targeted nine times — 29 percent of the Rams' throws, second only to Davante Adams's 10 — and caught six for 54 yards and the five-yard touchdown on second and five with 9:02 left in the fourth. A week earlier he had one target and no catches, and no throw Monday went to Tyler Higbee, in a 28–6 win over the Giants.

21 to six, nine oh two left in the fourth quarter, second and five at the New York five. Matthew Stafford threw short middle to Terrance Ferguson for the touchdown, the fourth of the night and the last score of the game. +1.6 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position — and +0.8 points of win probability, the chance of winning the game after the play against before it, which is what a touchdown is worth when the game is already decided. It was his first score of the season, on a night his first real workload came with it.
The line: nine targets, six catches, 54 yards, one touchdown, two first downs, +1.8 expected points on the targets, and a longest of 20. The catches went eight, six, six, 20, nine and five. Three targets before halftime, six after. His biggest play was the 20, second and 19 at the Los Angeles 26 with eight 11 left in the third, short middle to the 46, worth +2.3 — the throw that rescued a possession from second and 19. The three incompletions all came in the second half and two of them were back to back: second and eight and then third and eight at the New York 38 in the last 16 seconds of the third quarter, the second of which cost −1.9 and ended the possession. The one third-down target was that one, and it was not caught.
Nine targets were 29 percent of the 31 Rams throws and second on the team to Adams's 10. Colby Parkinson, Kyren Williams, Konata Mumpfield and Tutu Atwell had two each; Xavier Smith, Blake Corum and Davis Allen one each; one throw named no receiver. No throw went to Tyler Higbee.
Back in June the preview's read on Ferguson was a warning aimed at the buyer: a rookie year of 11 catches on 25 targets, 2.3 targets a game, a price of the 30-first tight end, and the point that tight-end targets are the stickiest stat in the library — which cuts against a bet on growth rather than for it. Week One added one target, the fourth-and-five incompletion that ended the Rams' last real possession in Melbourne. Week Two contradicted both the preview and Week One: nine targets, six catches, a touchdown, and the second-largest share on the team. It came with Puka Nacua inactive, per ESPN, and one game in that shape is not a role. Los Angeles is at the Broncos on Sunday night the 20-seventh.
