Ferguson was targeted twice and caught one for 9 yards, a conversion on third and 7 from the Los Angeles 40 in the second quarter; the other, on third and 4 in the first quarter, fell incomplete and he was injured on the play before returning later in the quarter. A week after 9 targets he had 2, and Tyler Higbee had 11, in a 30–26 loss to the Broncos.

10 to nothing, Rams, nine 36 left in the second quarter, third and seven at the Los Angeles 40. Matthew Stafford threw short right to Terrance Ferguson, five yards behind the line of scrimmage, and Ferguson reached the Los Angeles 49 for nine yards and the first down. +1.8 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position. The drive went on to the Denver 16 and ended in a 35-yard field goal.
The line: two targets, one catch, nine yards, one first down, +0.7 expected points on the targets. The other target came on the Rams' second possession, third and four at the Denver 35 with seven 35 left in the first quarter, short left, incomplete, and the play-by-play records him injured on it; the next note, with a minute 19 left in the quarter, says he returned. The Rams went for it on fourth and four on the next snap, and Kyren Williams's five-yard catch kept alive the drive that ended in Tyler Higbee's touchdown. Both targets came on third down, both before halftime.
Two targets were two of Stafford's 53 throws, not counting spikes. The tight-end work went to Higbee: 11 targets, eight catches, 62 yards and the touchdown. Davis Allen had three targets and Colby Parkinson one. In Week Two the split had been Ferguson nine, Parkinson two, Allen one, Higbee none.
Back in June the preview's read on Ferguson was a caution about growth: a rookie year of 11 catches on 25 targets, 2.3 targets a game, and the point that tight-end target counts are among the stickiest numbers in football, which cuts against expecting a jump. Week One was one target. Week Two was nine, six catches and a touchdown with Puka Nacua inactive, and that episode said one game in that shape was not a role. Sunday, with Nacua out again, the share went to Higbee instead. Three games: 12 targets, seven catches, 63 yards, one touchdown — four targets a game, above last year's rate, with nine of the 12 from one night. Los Angeles is at the Eagles on Sunday the fourth.
