Harris led the Chargers with 7 targets, 6 catches and 76 yards, career highs in all three and the most receiving yards by anyone in the game. His 29-yard catch to the Buffalo 20 with 11:46 left in the third, tied 10–10, came on a field-goal drive on which he caught three passes, in a 24–16 loss to the Bills.

10 to 10, 11 46 left in the third quarter, first and 10 at the Buffalo 49. Justin Herbert threw deep right to Tre Harris, 19 yards in the air, and Harris was brought down at the Buffalo 20 after 29. +1.9 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position — and 8.4 points of win probability, the chance of winning the game after the play against before it. The drive reached the one. A false start pushed it back to the six, Harris caught a throw there for no gain, another false start made it third and 11, and Harris caught eight to the three before a field goal made it 13 to 10.
The line: seven targets, six catches, 76 yards, three first downs, +3.0 expected points on the targets. The catches went 13, 29, nothing, eight, 23 three. The 13 was third and 12 at the Chargers 40 in the second quarter, converted, on a drive that ended in a missed field goal. The 23 came with three oh five left in the game, down 24 to 13, deep right from the Chargers 16, and the three came three snaps later, to the Buffalo 15, on the drive that ended in the last field goal. The one incompletion was the snap before the 13. Two targets before halftime, five after. Two third-down targets, both caught, one converted.
Seven targets led the team, ahead of six to Quentin Johnston and five to Ladd McConkey, seven of Herbert's 34 throws. His 76 yards led the Chargers and the game; DJ Moore's 67 were the most for Buffalo. Seven targets, six catches and 76 yards are each the most of his career.
Back in June the preview called Harris a watchlist: the fifth option as a rookie on 2.7 targets a game, with Keenan Allen's targets vacated and a head coach calling him one of three elite receivers. The thing to watch was September targets against that baseline. Week 1 was six targets for 20 yards. Week 2 was three with a 53-yard catch. Sunday was seven and six catches, the team lead. Three games: 16 targets, 10 catches, a hundred 49 yards, more than five targets a game against last season's 2.7. Three games settle little, and this is the first one where the volume and the yards arrived together. The Chargers are at the Seahawks on Sunday the fourth.
