Aaron Rodgers won against the Browns without throwing well: 13 of 25 for 172 yards, no touchdowns and an interception, sacked once. Over 25 dropbacks he was worth -3.7 expected points added (EPA), what a play was worth given down, distance and field position, -0.15 per dropback. His completion percentage over expected (CPOE), how often he completed passes against what their difficulty predicted, was -11.0.
His best throw came up 20-6 with 10:23 left in the third: first and 10 at the Pittsburgh 41, a short pass to the left that Darnell Washington carried 58 yards to the Cleveland 1, +3.8 EPA. Jaylen Warren scored on the next snap. Before the half, with 25 seconds left, his 28-yarder deep middle to Pat Freiermuth and a 15-yarder to Germie Bernard set up Freiermuth's touchdown on a direct snap.
Near the goal line it did not work. On first and goal at the 2 he threw two incompletions, and on first and goal at the 8 he threw two more and took an 11-yard sack on third down; both drives ended in field goals. Up 27-6 in the third, his deep throw for DK Metcalf was intercepted by Denzel Ward. Metcalf caught 1 of his 6 targets.
Through Week 7 he was at -23.8 EPA on 287 dropbacks, -0.08 per dropback, with a CPOE of -1.1, 13 touchdown passes and 5 interceptions. This was below both.
