Williams caught all 3 of his targets for 24 yards, every one of them on the ten-play fourth-quarter touchdown drive with Marcus Mariota at quarterback, and had no target before 13:14 remained in the game. He also threw a pass, deep right for Terry McLaurin on second and six from the Dallas 23, incomplete, in a 37–20 loss to the Cowboys.

27 to 13, Cowboys, two 55 left in the third quarter, second and six at the Dallas 23. The play-by-play lists the passer as Antonio Williams: deep right for Terry McLaurin, 23 yards in the air, incomplete. −0.6 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position. After a holding penalty wiped out the next snap, another receiver, Dyami Brown, threw one to Rachaad White for no gain on third and 16, and Washington missed a 51-yard field goal. At that point in the game Williams had thrown one more pass than he had been thrown.
The targets all came on one drive. Down 13 to 30 with 13 18 left in the fourth quarter, Washington went 73 yards in 10 plays, all of them passes by Marcus Mariota, and three went to Williams: nine yards short right on second and 10 from the Washington 27; 10 short left on first and 10 from the 41, out of bounds at the Dallas 49, a first down; and five short left, no huddle, on first and 10 from the Dallas 33. Two snaps after the last one Stefon Diggs caught the 20-yard touchdown.
The line: three targets, three catches, 24 yards, one first down, +1.7 expected points on the targets, 16 air yards and eight after the catch. No target from Jayden Daniels in the first half, none on third down, none inside the 20. Three targets were fifth on the team: McLaurin nine, then White, Diggs and Brown with six each, then Williams.
Back in June the preview refused to fake precision on Williams — a third-round rookie, 70-first overall, going at pick one 74 in July drafts, a slot receiver in a first-year offense — and said McLaurin's health would re-sort the whole tree. Week 1 was four catches on four targets for 64 yards, the biggest play of the comeback and the touchdown that ended it, and that episode said one afternoon is not a role. Sunday supports the caution: McLaurin drew nine targets, and Williams waited until the fourth quarter of a 17-point game for his first. He has still caught all seven balls thrown to him through two games. Luke McCaffrey, one of the two receivers the preview named as his competition for the slot, was inactive again, per Commanders.com; the other, Jaylin Lane, returned kicks and was not targeted. Seven for seven, and a share that has not grown. Washington is home to the Seahawks on Sunday the 20-seventh.
