Ashton Jeanty did more as a receiver than a runner against the Rams: all 8 of his targets caught for 61 yards and a touchdown, and 8 carries for 15 yards, in a 35-21 loss at home. The 8 catches were a season high and the 8 carries a season low. His carries were worth -3.5 expected points added (EPA), what a play was worth given down, distance and field position, and only 2 of the 8 (25%) gained positive EPA.
The run that hurt came in the first quarter, down 7-0. Mike Washington Jr. had just taken the Raiders to the Rams 14; Jeanty gained 2, then on second and 8 at the 12 lost 5 yards, -1.5 EPA and 5.2 points of win probability, the estimate of each side's chance to win. Las Vegas settled for a field goal.
The touchdown came early in the fourth, down 28-12 after Nakobe Dean's interception: first and 10 at the Rams 15, Kirk Cousins threw short right and Jeanty took it in, +1.84 EPA. His 22-yard catch deep right on second and 10 set up a field goal at the end of the first half.
On the ground it extended a hard season. Through Week 6 he had 98 carries for 313 yards and a touchdown at -0.29 EPA a carry, 32% of them positive; here it was -0.44. He had caught 26 of 36 targets for 251 yards and 2 touchdowns.
