Allen scored the Jets' first touchdown on a 5-yard run on first and goal with 6:08 left in the second quarter, and was stopped for no gain on fourth and one at midfield with 1:20 left in a tied game, the largest win-probability loss of any run or pass play by either team. He carried 5 times for 7 yards and caught one pass for 8, in a 20–17 overtime loss to the Packers.

Braelon Allen took the handoff at right guard and Lukas Van Ness stopped him for no gain. −2.9 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position — and −24.8 points of win probability, the chance of winning the game after the play against before it. No run or pass play by either team cost its side more all afternoon. Breece Hall had gained one yard on third and two the snap before. Green Bay took over at the 50, did not score before the end of regulation, and won it in overtime.
The other end of his day was the Jets' first touchdown. Seven to nothing, Packers, six oh eight left in the second quarter, first and goal at the Green Bay five: right end, five yards, touchdown. +1.4 expected points and 8.0 points of win probability.
The line: five carries, seven yards, one touchdown, two first downs, one of the five successful, −2.7 expected points on the carries; one target, one catch, eight yards, +1.0 on the target. The carries went −1, one, five, two and nothing. The two was second and one at the Green Bay 21 with three 47 left in the third, converted, and on the next snap he caught his one target, eight yards to the 11 with a roughing the passer penalty added on, which set up Garrett Wilson's touchdown from the five. Three carries before halftime for five yards, two after for two.
The split: Hall 16 of the 21 running back carries, Allen five. The carry from the five went to Allen and so did the fourth and one; Hall's one carry inside the Green Bay 20 gained a yard.
Back in June the preview made no call on Allen: the sixtieth running back off the board, a handcuff price for a handcuff role after a four-game season a year ago that ended with knee surgery. Week 1 was 10 carries for 40 yards, a fourth and one converted, and a 23-yard fourth-down touchdown taken back by a holding call, and that episode said the number to watch was fourth and short. The Jets went back to him there on Sunday, in the biggest spot of the game, and it failed. The carries were halved, 10 to five, while the short-yardage and goal-line work stayed his. That is a narrow role and a defined one. Two games do not fix a split. New York is at the Lions on Sunday the 20-seventh.
